The CPD System

As the golf industry continues to change, it is important that The PGA provides an ever-evolving offer and support around Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for PGA Members.

The CPD System

As a professional association, it is vitally important that we have a Membership that is engaged in CPD, remaining up-to-date, and at the forefront of our industry. The industry demands this and it is becoming increasingly evident that more and more employers, deployers and customers are looking to identify and engage with those industry professionals who are committed to developing themselves. Furthermore, regular engagement in targeted CPD should enable us all to do a better job, create new opportunities and have a rewarding career.

With these points in mind, we feel we must provide you with a CPD system and offer that is fit-for-purpose and enables you to stay at the top of your profession.

The current CPD system requires you to meet or exceed a set level of CPD activity each year, in the form of hours and standards as measures, rather than CPD points.

CPD Standards

Standard One

Meet or exceed a set level of various forms of professional development activity that may improve or benefit their current or future professional practice.

Standard Two

Maintain and submit a true and accurate CPD record of their professional development activity.

Standard Three

Meet or exceed a set level of various forms of professional development activity that may improve or benefit their current or future professional practice.

Standard Four

Meet or exceed a set level of various forms of professional development activity that may improve or benefit their current or future professional practice.

Accredited status

Class ‘A’ status and Class ‘AA’ status have been withdrawn and replaced by ‘Accredited’ to differentiate between Members who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to their personal and professional development by submitting a CPD journal via PGA Learn and those who have not. The 2019-20 CPD year was the last year A/AA statuses were used.

For you to gain Accredited status, you must submit a CPD journal that meets The PGA’s CPD standards. Once you gain Accredited status, you will hold it for the remainder of the current CPD year and the next.

Accredited status is awarded to those Members who:

  • Have indicated that they have met the PGA CPD Standards by submitting a CPD record, or,
  • Have indicated that they continue to meet PGA CPD Standards by annually submitting a CPD journal, or,
  • Are over the age of 55 and have previously met the PGA CPD standards, or,
  • Are a PGA Master Professional or were previously a PGA Advanced Fellow.

Timing of achieving accredited status

From 1st November 2020, Members no longer must wait for an annual reclassification and can gain Accredited status during the current CPD year.

If a Member declares and can demonstrate, through submission of a CPD journal that they have met the PGA’s CPD standards for the current year, they are eligible to gain Accredited status at that point.
