What does it take to build a career in France?

Andrew Willey (Oakmere Park Golf Club) secured the 2023 Midlands Order of Merit title after his tied-second finish at the Midland Professional Championship at Harborne Golf Club.

Willey finished with a score of five-under-par after 18 holes of play and has played consistently well on the Midlands circuit all year, with a huge seven first place finishes.

“It’s great to be classed as the best in the Midlands,” said Willey. “It’s a really good achievement - I’m really pleased, we have four Order of Merit tournaments and it’s a shame I didn’t win one, but I’ve been very consistent.

“I’ve had two tied-seconds and two tied-fourths, so I’ve been in the mix quite a lot, and it’s a great honour to win the Order of Merit, especially as there’s a lot of good players in the Midlands.”

Winning the Midland Order of Merit earns Willey a spot in next year’s PGA Play-Offs, which will be held at PGA National Cyprus at Aphrodite Hills Resort. A number of DP World Tour places will be in offer, as well as three PGA Cup spots.

Willey added: “I’ve played in the Play-Offs quite a few times before, so I know what it’s all about, so I’ll be looking forward to going out there, and to some warm weather before the season starts which’ll be nice, and I’ve never been to Cyprus before.

“We’ll see how we get on, see what’s on offer in terms of spots for anything bigger would be nice, and it’s just, seeing how your form is at the start of the year, but I’m looking forward to it!”
