PGA in Scotland launch new stableford series for Members aged 50 and over

Mark Plummer showed he had not forgotten how to negotiate the Championship course at Burnham & Berrow after a lengthy break by winning the latest leg of the Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA Winter Series.

Plummer, an Assistant at the Somerset venue in the mid-nineties who is now attached to Cirencester Golf Club, recorded 38 Stableford points to finish two clear of the 27-strong field.

In doing so, he ensured his Cirencester club-mate Ed Goodwin and David Haines, the host venue’s head pro, shared the runners’ up berth while another former Burnham assistant, Brean Golf Club’s Andrew March, was fourth.

Curiously Plummer, Goodwin and Haines each made an inauspicious start with bogeys at the par-four first.

Plummer, however, wasted no time in recovering from the early setback. The Welshman followed up with three successive birdies tempered by a bogey at six to reach the turn with 19 points, a total he doubled on the back nine thanks to birdies at 11 and 14 before signing off with a bogey at 18.

Meanwhile, the Total Triumph Order of Merit pacemaker, Filton Golf Club’s Giuseppe Licata, had to settle for seventh place but still boasts a healthy 50+ points lead over Goodwin, while March has overtaken Mark Pitcher to lie third.
