PGA in Scotland launch new stableford series for Members aged 50 and over

Hayling Golf Club kicked off the PGA South Region’s summer Pro-Am season in style with a win for Richard Wallis (Canterbury) over the beautifully presented Hampshire links courses.

In stunning conditions, Wallis was unstoppable, as a blemish-free round that included seven birdies secured him the £1,200 first prize and another PGA title to his name.

It was Martin Adams (Hedge End) who struck the first tee shot at 7.00am to lead the procession of a packed field of 48 teams and the South Region’s PGA Professionals who were vying it out for the win throughout the day.

However, it was the player who teed off at 10.50am who would eventually be crowned our champion, with Wallis picking up three birdies over his first five holes as he went in search of yet another title to add to his expanding resume.

Finishing his front nine with four pars, Wallis then produced his fourth birdie of the day, with back-to-back gains being made on the par 5 14th and par 4 15th.

Not done there, the Canterbury man birdied the 17th, with a closing par securing a seven-under round of 64 and a six-shot win over the duo of Rob Daw (Royal Ascot) and James Sharp (Burgess Hill).

The win continues Wallis’ impressive run of results, with the two-time PGA Cup player clearly looking to gain a place in the GB&I team again for the showcase matches at Foxhills in September.

There was further success for Wallis in the team event as his group of Hayling locals - Robert Dockerill, Spencer Hutt and Alan Beeton, shot a score of 83 Stableford points that secured the pick of the prizes on countback over Darren Timms (Gravesend) in 2nd place and Dan Stutchbury (Drift) in 3rd.
