Morgan started brightly with a birdie at the opening hole and she picked up another at the par 5 third to move to two-under-par. A bogey at fourth hole hampered her progress slightly, but Morgan made sure she approached the back nine two-under-par after claiming another birdie at the ninth.

Further birdies at 12 and 14 moved Morgan into a substantial lead and despite picking up a double bogey at the par 3 16th, Morgan was able to bounce back immediately with a birdie at the 17th to finish on three-under-par.

Emma Allen proved to be Morgan’s closest competitor with the Boundary Lakes Golf Club pro finishing just one shot back with a score of 71.

Allen found herself two-over-par heading into the back nine but quick-fire birdies at 14, 15 and 17 ensured she finished the day on two-under-par.

Elsewhere, five players including Gray and Dickens, finished level for the day on 74.
