What does it take to build a career in France?

Heather MacRae is hoping the Women’s PGA Cup can go from “strength to strength” after experiencing another memorable week of competition and camaraderie.

Sarah Bennett’s side put in a spirited showing and finished third behind eventual champions the USA at the Twin Warriors Club in New Mexico.

MacRae, a member of the GB&I side that also came third in the inaugural event in 2019, revelled in the cut-and-thrust but the Scot also savoured the companionship and the sense of community that this gathering of kindred golfing spirits fosters.

“It was probably my best experience as a golfer,” said MacRae. “Yes, you are competing against each other but when you get off the course you get to know what everybody else is doing in the golf world. As PGA pros, we are all trying to do our bit and grow the game and it’s inspiring hearing stories from people from around the world. You can take bits and pieces from them, bring it back and hopefully be better at what you do. Hopefully, this event goes from strength to strength."

MacRae, a three-time winner of the WPGA Championship, led from the front and was GB&I’s best performer in a sturdy title tilt. In the one for all and all for one environment of team golf, though, everybody played a part.

“I wasn’t thinking of my score at all,” she said. “We all tried so hard for each other and we were still in it going into the back nine of the final day. From start to finish, it was an amazing week.”
