What does it take to build a career in France?

Graham Fox got back into the competitive swing on the Arnold Clark Tartan Tour by winning the opening Winter Stableford event of the new season at a blustery Western Gailes.

Fox, who illuminated a fine 2021 campaign with victory in the Loch Lomond Whiskies Scottish PGA Championship at Deer Park, harnessed the testing conditions on the Ayrshire coast to good effect and racked up an impressive 36 points.

That gave the West Kilbride man a four point victory over nearest challenger, Stephen Gray. “Bandit,” wrote fellow pro James Erskine with a cheeky summary of Fox’s prowess.

A three-point birdie on the first hole got Fox off to a flying start. It wasn’t all plain-sailing, mind you.

A triple bogey six on the treacherous, par-3 13th was a dreaded blob on the card but it was the only hole where he didn’t score.

Fox hit back with another three-pointer on the 14th before another birdie on the last saw him finish with a flourish.

The next event of the Winter Series will be a fourball at Royal Troon on Tuesday March 15th.
