What does it take to build a career in France?

Jamie Clare wasted no time in experiencing success in the Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucester and Somerset PGA Winter Series by winning on his first appearance.

Clare, a Year One Trainee attached to Long Sutton Golf Club, served notice of things to come with a blistering start that saw him begin his round at Henbury Golf Club with successive birdies.

Two more plus an eagle, tempered by bogeys at the sixth and eighth holes, saw him reach the turn at the Bristol venue in four-under.

His negotiation of the back nine was more sedate by contrast. A birdie at 11 was erased by a bogey at the final hole but the 27-year-old’s four-under par round of 65 was sufficient to keep Brickhampton Court’s Ross Langdon at bay.

Langdon, the Gloucester and Somerset PGA captain, had to settle for the runner’s up berth, a shot adrift of Clare, but strengthened his hold on third place in the Order of Merit.

Meanwhile, Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin reduced Giuseppe Licata’s advantage in the Order of Merit to fewer than 50 points courtesy of finishing third, a shot ahead of the runaway leader from Filton Golf Club.
