James Jones officially began his year as the East’s captain at the PGA region’s 2024 annual general meeting.

Regional manager Gordon Campbell put on the blue blazer as Jones succeeded Roger Gray in the prestigious role.

Jones, the director of golf at The Hertfordshire Golf & Country Club, said: “It’s an honour and a privilege. Roger has done a fantastic job. If I can carry on with his good work that would be amazing.

“The East region is going from strength to strength with what Gordon and the team do. There’s some really exciting stuff going on, so I think 2024 is going to be a great year for us.”

Jones qualified as a PGA professional 24 years ago, having started out as a trainee at Brickendon Grange Golf Club in the second half of the 1990s.

He went on to work at a driving range facility in Stanmore and then at Aldwickbury Park in Harpenden. A short spell at Hanbury Manor followed before switching to the Hertfordshire Golf & Country Club just over 20 years ago.

He has been on the PGA in England, East committee for the last three years and works closely to support Hertfordshire PGA secretary Daniel Field.
