What does it take to build a career in France?

Scottish Golf has launched a new Activator programme which provides individuals with an interactive and practical training course enabling them to support their PGA Professional to introduce more people to golf.

The benefit for PGA Professionals is having a trained ‘Activator’ to help increase the number of participants in each group and ultimately get more people involved in junior or adult beginner activity.

The new Activator Course is a collaboration across all the Home Nations, funded and supported by The R&A and endorsed by The PGA.

What is an Activator?

They're not a coach, in fact you don't need a lot of golf knowledge for the course - just enthusiasm and commitment. They are also a valuable and important extra pair of hands within coaching sessions.

Who can become an Activator?

The Activator programme is for those who are:

  • New to helping out with activities for beginner golfers
  • Interested in getting involved with supporting activity
  • A parent or guardian who would like to support junior coaching sessions
  • A young volunteer, junior captain/vice-captain who would like to help their peers enjoy golf
  • An existing volunteer who lacks the confidence to actively support the PGA Coach at their club

Course are open to everyone 16 years and above.

What do they do?

  • Set up the coaching environment
  • Welcome people
  • Take registers
  • Supervise
  • Deliver non-technical games and activities
  • Communicate with participants
  • Post on social media

Why are Activators important?

With the help of trained Activators, The PGA and Scottish Golf hope that more people will be encouraged to participate and enjoy the game of golf.

Where and how will the sessions be delivered?

Following feedback from last year, the sessions will be delivered online in addition to face-to-face workshops. This allows more people to access the course.

Courses run throughout March and April, with the first session being delivered on 9th March for the Fife region.

We are running seven courses comprising of 4 face to face workshops and 3 online.  Currently these are being delivered free of charge.
